Call for New Members – Wavelength Board of Directors

Wavelength Music:
Call for New Members – Board of Directors
2x Volunteer Positions: Treasurer and Director at Large

Are you passionate about independent music and looking to give something back to the community?

Wavelength is seeking two passionate volunteers interested in joining our Board of Directors, and playing a role in our organization’s governance and strategic direction. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with previous experience on the financial side of non-profit arts organizations.

While previous Board experience is valued, of equal importance are a demonstrated passion for Wavelength’s mandate, the ability to work cooperatively with others and the availability in your schedule. A time commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per month is expected throughout the year.

We are both looking to round out our existing directorate, but also to fill some specific roles, including the role of Treasurer – to be sure, a key and crucial role on a non-profit board! The ideal Treasurer candidate should have a grasp of core financial concepts and, ideally, a CPA designation. Financial management experience in a non-profit environment would be considered a strong plus.

Why Join the Wavelength Board?

Wavelength works to help provide a platform to diverse artists from Toronto and across Canada, bringing them to new audiences while providing them with an opportunity to hone their craft and reach new heights. Performing at Wavelength has connected independent musical artists with both new audiences and like-minded artists and collaborators for over 17 years now. For the last three years, Wavelength has produced more ambitious, higher profile, and critically acclaimed events including the annual summer music & arts festival, Camp Wavelength. As a Board member, you will help give the organization’s leadership the support they need to keep creating these valuable creative opportunities for artists, audiences, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Attend both Wavelength events and Board meetings
  • Manage/participate in at least one Board committee
  • Provide governance and leadership
  • Support and participate in sponsorship and fundraising efforts
  • Act as an ambassador for Wavelength, ensuring that its work and mandate are understood and appreciated.

Qualifications & Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • Passion and vision for fostering, growing and sustaining independent live music in Toronto
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with the fundamentals of Board governance
  • An open mind
  • An understanding of the operational realities of non-profit arts organizations
  • The ability to network, collaborate and engage with a variety of stakeholders

Board Diversity

To serve our mandate to engage with all Torontonians, a crucial element involves attracting Board members from diverse backgrounds and traditions, who vary by their race and ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, culture, religion, and physical abilities. Wavelength is committed to increasing the numbers of underrepresented minorities, particularly women, people of colour, and Indigenous people.  We work to ensure that our appointments and selection procedures consciously identify and evaluate individuals from underrepresented groups.  We will also strive to remove sources of unconscious bias, and will seek to correct situations where full and open exchange of ideas has been limited.
