Sheenah Ko

Sheenah Ko is an Irish-Chinese producer and composer based in Saguenay. Having built a successful career as a touring keyboardist, Ko boasts over a decade of experience performing headlining shows internationally with acts such as The Besnard Lakes, Bedouin Soundclash, and Kevin Hearn (Barenaked Ladies). Now she is channeling her talents into producing sonically rich and harmonious music, fusing her skills in analog synthesizers, vocals and beat production. Her music takes the listener on a captivating voyage, traversing atmospheric and reflective dreamscapes before bursting into moments of ecstatic, high-energy fun. Ko’s music is a fusion of diverse influences, including remnants of the UK electronic scene, the bold uniqueness of Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, and Bjork, the etherealness of Julee Cruise and Enya, and the surrealism of Boards of Canada and Angelo Badalamenti.

With her debut album Nowhere In Time in 2020, Ko dove into the spotlight earning a Top 10 placement on the NCRA Canadian Campus Radio Electronic charts. The music video for her single “Wrap Me Up” triumphed at the UK Music Video Awards in 2021, taking home the award for Best Choreography and garnering a nomination for Music Video of the Year at the 2021 Juno Awards.

Less than 2 years later, Ko released her sophomore album, Future Is Now, produced from her new home in Saguenay. The album, featuring final co-production touches by Steeven Chouinard (Le Couleur) and Ryan Battistuzzi, was accompanied by 7 visually stunning music videos. Two of these videos received award nominations, and the album itself was awarded Pop Album of the Year at the 2023 GAMIQ (Quebec Independent Music) awards.

Ko’s live show has evolved significantly since she first assembled her band during a music residency with the Centre d’Expérimentation Musicale in 2020. Matched with 6 skilled musicians proficient in improvisation and exuding positive energy, the show is a vibrant and ethereal pop adventure. It seamlessly transitions between psychedelic and jazz elements, leaving ample room for improvisation and dance. Together, they guide the audience into an incandescent festive moment, with every show being a unique experience.

In September 2024, Sheenah Ko unveiled Transformation, a bilingual French-English album co-produced with Félix Petit (Hubert Lenoir). The record builds on her previous achievements by boldly fusing acoustic and electronic elements. Transformation transcends genres, exploring deep and intimate themes while inviting listeners to let go and embrace the unknown. The project reflects both her artistic maturity and her constant drive to push the boundaries of contemporary music production.
