Charles Spearin is a genre-defying Canadian musician and sonic explorer, best known as a founding member of the influential bands Broken Social Scene and Do Make Say Think. Over the past two decades, he has helped shape the sound of post-rock and indie music through a blend of heartfelt experimentation and collaborative alchemy.
Spearin’s solo work continues pushes the boundaries of what music can be. His critically acclaimed project The Happiness Project blurred the line between speech and melody, transforming lighthearted interviews with neighbours into rich musical compositions. More recently, he has created large-scale works such as Music for 32 Phones Played Simultaneously, a participatory symphony in which the audience’s phones became instruments in a shared auditory experience.
