Sook-Yin Lee

Sook-Yin Lee, multimedia artist, engineers and produces music. Her album “jooj two,” with Adam Litovitz, reached #1 on the Earshot national campus music chart. Her songs have been covered by Neko Case, and featured in horror movies INFINITY POOL and ANTIVIRAL. Lee played with experimental legends CCMC, John Oswald, Fred Frith, and opened for African-American scholar and poet Fred Moten. Starting in Vancouver’s art-punk scene, Lee, the iconic MuchMusic VJ and CBC broadcaster, starred in SHORTBUS which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. She won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress for her starring turn as Olivia Chow in the Jack Layton biopic.  Lee wrote and directed the award-winning feature films YEAR OF THE CARNIVORE starring Cristin Milioti and OCTAVIO IS DEAD!  and created UNSAFE, on censorship and artistic freedom for Canadian Stage. Her latest movie, the Canadian Screen Award-winning PAYING FOR IT, was selected as one of Canada’s Top Ten Films. She releases music as a solo artist and with the art rock band Lee & Gamble Unlimited.
