Wavelength Music is pleased to welcome nine new members to its Board of Directors, bringing the total to 12. As we enter into an exciting year celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2020, and beginning a new Strategic Plan to take us into our organization’s third decade, we are delighted to have such a diversity of community members bring their skills and expertise to our Board table. Our newly elected Board members are (seen from top left to right:
Riaz Charania — Currently marketing lead at Myseum of Toronto, Toronto’s virtual history museum. With over 10 years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, and event planning, at HBO Canada, the Ontario Science Centre, and StageFright Publicity, Riaz brings a wide range of experience from many different sectors.
Chris De Castro — VFX, Animator and Game Developer who has worked on music videos for Maylee Todd, Brendan Canning, Shad, Drake, Maestro, and many more. Currently also on the Board of the Hand Eye Society. Chris met his wife at a Sunday night Wavelength show at Sneaky Dee’s, and proposed at Wavelength’s ALL CAPS! Festival on Toronto Island.
Jennie Punter — Editor of Musicworks, a respected magazine exploring innovative ideas in music and sound art for 40 years. A veteran arts writer and editor, Jennie has covered pop music, film and TV for The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Variety, and more, and worked as a documentary field producer and researcher. She previously served on the Board of the West End Parents Daycare.
Arianne Tong — Resident writer for queer culture hub YOHOMO and a Toronto-based stand up comedian. Arianne also hosts the comedy wellness podcast Group Therapy and the Girl Gang Cabarets variety show. In her professional career, she has worked as a marketing manager at Bell Media for HBO Canada and Crave, and communications manager for Virgin Mobile.
Libydo — Dance performance artist based in Toronto, currently collaborating with experimental turntablist/composer SlowPitchSound. Starting out in the breakdance scene, Lybido has also worked with indie rock band the Salads, hip-hop artist K-os and R&B singer Zaki Ibrahim, just to name a few.
Matt Longo — A lawyer with the City of Toronto specializing in land-use planning, Matt has played in numerous Beach Boys/Huey Lewis-inspired musical outfits, performing around Ontario to tens upon tens of people.
Angie De Medeiros — Associate Manager, Label Partnerships at Universal Music Canada, working with a diverse indie label roster including Caroline, Crystal Math, Deadbeats, and Royal Mountain, and leading artist marketing campaigns for the likes of PUP. Previously production specialist at Harbourfront Centre, Angie has also volunteered for CMW and NXNE.
Maria-Carmela Raso — Now based in Reykjavík, Iceland, this musician, curator, and sound artist has roots in Toronto and has performed with Element Choir, Tanya Tagaq, and her own project MSEA. In Iceland, she has worked with record label Bedroom Community, experimental art/music venue Mengi, and Ekkisens Art Gallery, and is the curator of a monthly music series called “can’t think just feel.”
Pothik Karim — Professional event and experiential marketing producer who has also been playing in bands for over 25 years and has contributed to blogTO, Indie88, and the Wavelength Wavelog. If you’ve been to a Wavelength show, you’ve probably heard Po “whooo” and whistle a little too loudly, dance a little too early, or stage-dive a few too many times.
These nine amazing additions to our Board of Directors join long-serving members Sally Lee, Matthew Seymour, and Jonathan Shedletzky. We would also like to thank all our past Board members for their contribution, including those that have retired within the past year: Jonathan Craske, Scott Ingram, Hilary Martin, Rich Taylor, and Dean Williams.
