Wavelength at Doors Open Toronto – Official Daytime Programming:

Fresh Snow @ R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant – 12:00pm – FREE

Fresh Snow is an acclaimed instrumental, psychedelic noise-rock quartet from Toronto. Signed to local label Hand Drawn Dracula Records, the band has been seen on the cover of NOW Magazine, and nominated for the esteemed Polaris Music Prize. The Toronto Star’s Ben Rayner called their music “transcendental” and “overwhelming in the best sense possible.” Fresh Snow will perform their tidally charged drone rock right next to the fresh water at “the Palace of Purification,” 1941 Art Deco masterpiece, the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant.

Contact plays Allison Cameron: A Gossamer Bit @ Evergreen Brick Works – 2:15pm – FREE

Toronto’s Contact combines 21st century classical/experimental music with the sensibilities of rock and jazz to form a hybrid chamber ensemble that defies genres. Praised by The New York Times as “mesmerizing,” Contact has premiered countless works by Canadian and international composers. For this concert, they will perform pieces by Toronto composer Allison Cameron heard on their 2015 album A Gossamer Bit. Performing on the bucolic terrace of community environmental centre the Evergreen Brick Works, Contact and Allison Cameron’s music will facilitate a meditative communion with the natural world.

Kurt Marble @ Masonic Temple – 4:00pm

From the charming Northern Ontario outpost of Espanola, comes Kurt Marble. Though cleverly disguised beneath layers of fuzz, his music is at its core sweet and good-natured pop, reminiscent of early 60’s doo-wop and rock’n’roll.  Starting out as a solo project, Kurt Marble has since ballooned into a full-blown live spectacle. This show at the century-old Masonic Temple – formerly the site of rock music venues the Concert Hall and the Rock Pile (where Led Zeppelin played in 1969) – will follow the release of the band’s new EP, Friend of Mine.

Wavelength After-Party (Not Affiliated with Doors Open Toronto) @ Bike Pirates – 9:00pm

Featuring:

The Holy Gasp
Toronto’s one and only klezmer-jazz-punk party band, bringing bongo frenzy and daily affirmations to displaced urban bohemians everywhere. https://theholygasp.bandcamp.com/

Protruders
Pure garage punk minimalism, the Toronto-via-Sackville, NB crew once known as Kappa Chow makes a catchy racket and look good doing it. https://protruders.bandcamp.com/

The Pucumber Sasssquash Family Band
Vegetables matter, and so does this Hamilton collective of produce obsessives with names like Asarahguts and Zucchini Jackson, who slice and dice dissonant guitar riffs and pureed beats. https://pucumber.bandcamp.com/

Spoils
New Toronto post-punk quartet, with great songs and dynamics inspired by the likes of Sleater-Kinney, The Ex, and Fugazi. Not to be missed! https://torontospoils.bandcamp.com/

DJ New Jewel Movement
Melissa Vincent is a new addition to the Wavelength crew, a music journalist and also one of the organizers of Toronto’s recent It’s Cold Outside festival, which aimed to bring together isolated factions of the all-ages hardcore scene.
